There’s another side to getting fit and staying fit. It’s your mental state -- the frame of mind -- that develops over time similar to the physical part. I think this part, the mental part is really the key to fitness.
After exercising for a while you begin to see what a difference it makes to your physical well-being. But eventually you will notice another positive effect. Exercise helps clear your mind and will even help reset yourself when struggling with bad news or adversity.
Exercise helps clear your mind and will even help you reset your whole being when struggling with bad news or adversity.
When I skip a workout, I feel as though I’ve let myself down and wonder how I can make it up. Maybe I’ll have a longer session tomorrow or step up the minutes on the elliptical. I feel a bit guilty about it. I actually look forward to my exercise session each day and I believe it helps me physically and mentally.

The right habits of mind are key to making fitness a habit!
So, your mindset is important. The idea of exercising every day, or at least five days a week means you have to eventually consider your fitness routine an essential daily activity -- almost a habit. In fact, habits of mind are the key to making fitness a habit, just like cleaning your teeth, brushing your hair, shaving, mowing the lawn, taking your car for its oil change, that sort of thing.
You have to consider your fitness routine an essential daily activity.
It’s been important to me that my routine be relatively short with a variety of exercises, and when they’re all done, I feel as if I’ve accomplished something. And I feel better. My own routine changed with my age and lifestyle over many decades to what I do now at age 92. It’s a short exercise program that I do almost every day. I feel good when I’m done.
